Effectively managing time is an ability that everyone can learn. It's only a question of shedding unproductive habits and taking on more efficient ones. It's not so hard to read or think about this, of course.
In reality, changing your habits it's not always easy. You will get better at time management, but everyone changes at his or her own pace. Don't worry if your journey sometimes takes you two steps forward and one step backward, as this is natural. Still, you can make the whole process a little simpler if you follow some well tested guidelines.
Write down all of your goals. Writing them with paper and pen and keeping the list somewhere nearby is always best but you can also type them up on the computer. Having this list makes it possible for you to look at it from anywhere if you feel like your focus is fading. It will remind you to stay on task and not spend so much time reading websites or staring out of the window. Using pen and paper writing of your goals offers a more permanent feel than even a word document and they aren't as likely to magically disappear. Goals don't have to be monsterous, in fact they can be as small as you need them to be. Just write them down.
When you operate in harmony with your body's own clock, you are much more productive. Certain people are more efficient and energetic at night. Others find that early mornings are their best times of day. Then there are those who reach their peak sometime in the middle of the day.
Set up your schedule in a way that makes the most of your natural tendencies. Schedule your most focused work for the time of day when your brain naturally focuses the best. Working in accord with your internal clock can make a big difference in your productivity. You'll feel better about your progress!
Take time out to relax and schedule in breaks. Nobody can go full throttle all day long without it really wearing them down. Staying on top of your game is best handled with a fresh mind and relaxed body which is why you need scheduled breaks or down times every day. You may not know it but it has been proven that the brain functions better right after a break period. A few breaks a day should be included in your schedule and it's important that you actually take them too. You need it, your mind needs it, this is definately your time. You may not realize it but sometimes a short intermission is all it takes to get your emotions back under control. Never let anyone convince you otherwise.
Learning time management might seem a bit overwhelming at first. Your schedule will help you stay on task and focused on the days agenda. Before too long you could be as good or better than the most organized person in your office. You can't go wrong with a good set of goal. Don't go hog wild. Live a little, don't forget the importance of fun in your life too, an over organized life is no fun at all. RELAX often, play hard, work hard, have fun.
